OCTOBER 21-24

About the Event

Culture Shifting Weekends is an annual invite-only bi-coastal event that takes place in Silicon Valley, and Silicon Alley and Miami. These are the only events of their kind in the United States that unite over 400 accomplished Black & Latinx tech executives, entrepreneurs, investors, innovators and social impact leaders in order to enable deals, collaborations and wealth creation.

Each coast has a different format; Silicon Valley is the largest gathering of Black leaders in tech, innovation and social impact to narrow the inequality gap in entrepreneurship, on corporate boards, in tech and in the c-suite. Silicon Alley is the largest gathering of Black and Latinx Venture Capitalists to narrow the inequality gap in this sector. Miami is a hybrid of the two.

Culture Shifting Weekend is an annual signature event of Culture Shift Labs; a diversity and innovation management consultancy.

Corporate Venture Panel

2017sf_Ventures_logo_RGB.png

The number of global active Corporate VC funds has tripled from 348 in 2011 to 965 in 2016, which includes 75 of the Fortune 100. More importantly, Corporates now represent almost 20% of the dollar volume of the global venture market. While Corporate VC funds as a group are a growing force in the market, they are not all built the same. In this panel, we will discuss some differences in structure (internal vs external), approach (lead vs join), focus (narrow vs broad), goals (strategic vs financial) and partnering.

Impact Investors Panel

ubs_semibold_rgb125.png

Impact Investors are working to revolutionize the way capital is allocated to opportunities by aligning the pursuit of profit and purpose. With the rise of a more purpose driven generation, the AUM of Impact Investors grew from $46B in 2013 to $114B in 2016. Despite the growth in the market, Impact Investors still face challenges with mainstream misperceptions about deal quality, clarity of definitions and quality of measurements. In this panel, we will meet some of the top Impact Investors and discuss their definition of impact, measurements they believe matter, and both the opportunity and imperative the mainstream is overlooking. AND Inclusive impact is increasingly on the minds of foundations and investors across the country and around the world. Who are the thought leaders and who are making big moves? What's coming next? And what do GPs need to know?

Family Office Panel

plexo-capital-whitebg.png

Family offices and high net worth individuals are the most likely LP prospects for smaller funds. They play a critical role in defining the landscape and opportunity set for new funds. So how do GPs get to know these power players in investing? And what matters to them? How are they reacting to COVID-19 and the recent civil unrest? And what's coming up next?

Fireside Chat: Institutional Investors

KF_Logotype_Icon-and-Stacked-Name.png

Increasingly, investors seek to allocate their investments in a purpose driven way. One of those ways is to actively seek out diverse owned asset management firms. Avance Investment Management is a Hispanic-owned firm that seeks to make transformative growth investments in U.S.-based middle market service and consumer sector companies. They have recently raised their first major fund. For over a decade, the John S.and James L. Knight Foundation has been intentional about investing its endowment with diverse-owned managers. Knight also conducts research on diversity of ownership in the asset management industry and the extent to which philanthropic endowments use diverse-owned asset managers. Join a conversation between Luis Zaldivar, Co-founder & Managing Partner of Avance and Juan Martinez, Knight Foundation VP/CFO & Treasurer that will discuss ways to increase diversity in the asset management industry, how increased diversity can add to both investor returns and positive impact in communities and entrepreneurial insights from starting a new business during a pandemic.
